Back on September 8th, Luke and I made a 1 day down and back trip down to Salt Lake to watch a band perform, their name is Fun. I know I know, you might be thinking "What the heck kind of name is Fun for a band!?" Well after seeing them live, the name definitely makes sense!!!
Back about 3 years ago, I was introduced to a band, The Format. The first week I heard them, I went down to a concert of theirs in Pocatello, Idaho at Idaho State University. When I heard them live, they had me hooked, I was a fan. I was lucky enough to see them again 2 summers ago at a music festival in Salt Lake, which ended up being one of their last concerts before they BROKE UP! It was hard to believe that this band, that sang with so much heart and meaning had broken up, we were crushed. But the lead singer Nate Ruess wasn't done. That's where Fun. comes in.
Nate formed the group with Jack Antonoff and Andrew Dost, who had both already been in other bands. Many of us Format fans waited, having high hopes for their first album, and about a month ago, we were finally satisfied. Nate picked up where he left off with his lyrical genius, their album Aim and Ignite was what we had been waiting for, and more!
So back to the trip down to Salt Lake, Fun. was first going to have an in store performance and and 2 hours later were going to have their big show. The in store performance was at a Graywhale music store on the University of Utah campus (GO BYU! haha) and they played outside with the fans gathered around, it was really cool. Then after we got to meet the band and get autographs.
After the in store performance we killed some time at the Gateway mall by doing some people watching haha, always fun. After chilling for about 45 minutes, we headed over to the venue for the night concert, Kilby Court.
Kilby Court is in the middle of nowhere in Salt Lake. From the outside it doesn't look like a venue. When we finally got in, the venue was SMALL! It's like they were playing in a garage haha. But that just made it even more awesome. The smaller the venue, the closer we all were to the band as they played, it was an amazing atmosphere, and an amazing show.
The day started at 9:00am and ended around 1:00am after we returned back to Rexburg. It was an awesome day and now we can't wait to see Fun. again.
